چکیده
Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) are omnidirectional turbomachines commonly used in rural areas for small-to-medium-scale power generation. The complex flow observed the wake region of VAWTs is affected by a number factors, such as rotor blades design. A damaged significantly alters field VAWT, degrading its generation capability. Published literature on wind turbine severely limited to torque signal analysis and basic description region. In this study, detailed numerical investigations have been carried out establish quantify relationship between dynamics VAWT. Time-based Computational Fluid Dynamics analyses performed two VAWT models, one undamaged other with missing blade. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition has extract energy content temporal coefficients various patterns associated results indicate that first pressure-based mode contains 99% provides functional basis accurate reconstruction wake. It envisaged study will aid development novel machine learning algorithms damage detection farms.

Transition to bluff-body dynamics in the wake of vertical-axis wind turbines
We present experimental data to demonstrate that the far wake of a vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) exhibits features that are quantitatively similar to that of a circular cylinder with the same aspect ratio. For a fixed Reynolds number (Re ≈ 0.8 × 105) and variable tip-speed ratio, two-dimensional particle image velocimetry (PIV) is used to measure the velocity field in the wake of four diffe...

متن کاملApplication of a Diffuser Structure to Vertical-Axis Wind Turbines
The effects of using a wind acceleration device (wind lens) with vertical-axis wind turbines in wind tunnel experiments were examined. A wind lens consists of a diffuser and flanges, and this study investigated the optimum parameters of their configuration with regard to the power augmentation of the turbines. The wind lens with a flat-panel-type diffuser demonstrated power augmentation by a fa...
متن کاملTowards the evolution of vertical-axis wind turbines using supershapes
We have recently presented an initial study of evolutionary algorithms used to design vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) wherein candidate prototypes are evaluated under approximated wind tunnel conditions after being physically instantiated by a 3D printer. That is, unlike other approaches such as computational fluid dynamics simulations, no mathematical formulations are used and no model ass...
